Care of Students Under 18

At STAR Exeter, the safety and well-being of our students under 18 are our top priorities. We offer a supportive and secure environment, ensuring that all young learners receive the care and guidance they need to succeed academically and personally. Our dedicated team provides comprehensive support, from daily supervision to tailored academic assistance and well-being services.

Daily Sign-In and Supervision

All students under 18 must sign in at the office every morning before their lesson starts at 9.30am. This helps us monitor attendance and ensure student safety throughout the day. Additionally, we conduct regular checks to maintain a safe and secure environment.  All students under 18 years wear a yellow student lanyard (over 18 years students wear a purple student landyard).

Weekly Welfare Meetings

Every under-18 student has a scheduled weekly welfare meeting with a dedicated member of our team. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss any concerns, offer support, and ensure the well-being of each student.

Orientation and Induction

We provide a comprehensive orientation program for all under-18 students. This includes an introduction to our staff, facilities, emergency procedures, and the local area, helping students feel comfortable and informed from day one.

Health and Well-being Support

Our team assists students with medical needs, including registration with local doctors and access to counselling services. We prioritise the physical and emotional health of our students, providing resources and support as needed.

Social and Recreational Activities

We encourage students to participate in extracurricular programs and supervised excursions. These activities provide opportunities for social interaction, cultural exploration, and personal growth.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

Our staff is thoroughly trained in child protection, and we have clear procedures for managing and reporting any safeguarding concerns. We are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Arrival to the UK

Students under 18 years may travel independently to and from the UK. We advise parents to use our arranged airport transfer service on arrival and departure.

Consent Form

Parents/guardians must complete and sign our consent form before their child arrives in the UK.

Supervision outside of the school

Students will travel independently to and from school each day.  They purchase their own travel tickets.  Students have their own independence and unsupervised time outside of lessons.

Students staying with a Homestay

Students under 18 years must return to their homestay by 10pm each evening. At the complete discretion of the school, permission may be granted for a one-off curfew extension on a case by case basis. Requests for one-off curfew extensions should be made to the Welfare Officer in advance.

Students must not stay overnight at another homestay home or at another location without permission from the school and their parents.

Hosts will not leave students aged under 18 alone overnight.
