STAR Exeter

About

We are situated in the centre of Exeter with easy access to all the shops, bars and restaurants, as well as bus and train stations.  We are located above Caffe Nero (coffee shop) and next door to Subway (sandwich shop), just across the road from the Guildhall shopping centre with many shops and restaurants.

STAR Exeter provides a personal and highly professional approach to teaching and learning English. Our teachers are fully qualified for their roles, with certifications such as Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert. TESOL. Additionally, some teachers are currently working towards a Delta (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Dip. TESOL, or a Master's degree in TESOL. Each class is limited to a maximum of 12 students, ensuring that each student receives individual attention from the teacher.

In class, we use the communicative approach to teaching English, which gives students the opportunity to use and discover English in pairs and groups, as well as individually. We believe that an inductive approach to learning helps students to become better learners, helping them towards their future goals for further study at university, or working in English-speaking environments.  Every student has an individual learning plan and there are regular individual tutorials with their class teacher.

An average student can progress from CEFR B1 (IELTS 4.0) to B2 (IELTS 5.0) in approximately 12 weeks.

STAR Exeter offers kitchen facilities for students where they can have free tea and coffee, hot drinks from our machine (payable 50p) and the use of microwaves, toaster and fridge-freezer.  We also have a quiet room where students can relax, read books from our library or pray.

Our high-quality homestays are recruited by the accommodation officer and regularly quality inspected. Homestays offer foreign students the opportunity to understand and learn about our customs and culture, and also have a friendly place to go home to at the end of a busy day of learning! Our homestays also have loads of knowledge and information about the local area to help students get around and enjoy their time in Exeter.

Our social programme is packed! We offer different activities each week including visits to UK cities like Bristol, London and Bath as well as places of interest like Stonehenge, the Jurassic Coast or the beautiful beaches and fantastic national parks. Our social programme is often led by our teachers, which gives students more opportunity to learn and discover new vocabulary and also practice their English.
